Summary: Oversee all aspects of the day-to-day operations for programs that serve survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, human trafficking, stalking, and elder abuse. The Executive Director is responsible for working with the board of directors, to ensure fiscal stability to maintain programs through financial oversight, fiscal management, fundraising, grant administration, program development, and ensuring compliance with regulations. Additionally, the Executive Director and Board of Directors will work closely to develop strategic plans and represent the organization to the public. The Executive Director is responsible to maintain an environment where staff and survivors feel safe emotionally and physically, by performing or overseeing the following duties:
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Management:
- Proven ability to lead and manage the organization’s staff, volunteers, donors, friends, and board of directors
- Strong leadership skills for staff, partners, and the community
- Foster a positive work environment, motivate the team to achieve the organization’s mission
- Ability to model a balance of leadership and authority with compassion
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, effective time management skills, and the ability to exercise effective delegation skills
- Oversee quality service delivery to victims by providing supervision, support, guidance, and resources that ensure services are provided in a culturally sensitive and victim-driven manner
- Develop and maintain a work climate that encourages the best performance of the staff
- Oversee staff recruitment, compensation, and retention
- Supervise Associate/Assistant Director and the Programs Coordinator and assist the Programs Coordinator in supervising direct service staff
- Ability to analyze problems, make sound decisions, and implement solutions
- Self directed/Self starter who displays passion for the work, integrity, positive attitude, mission driven leader who works collaboratively with diverse groups
Strategic Planning and Development:
- Ability to articulate a clear vision for the organization with a plan for future growth of programs and secure funding sources
- Work with the Board of Directors to develop and implement strategic plans, ensuring the organization aligns its plans with its mission and goals
- Oversight of the strategic plan
- Initiate and oversee the development and implementation of new programs, projects, and services, as approved by the Board
Financial Management:
- Oversight of the organization’s finances, including experience with budgeting, fundraising, and financial reporting
- Ensures the organization’s financial resources are used effectively and responsibly
- Working with the board treasurer or the executive committee prepare and monitor the organization budget.
- Identifies new and ongoing sources of pay-for-service, contracts, corporate, foundation, and government funding.
- Oversight of the preparation of monthly financial reports to funding sources and the board in a way that ensures the board is able to provide due diligence.
- Works directly with accountant and other auditors in preparation of organization’s audits and compilations
Fundraising and Grant Writing:
- Proven ability to develop and implement fundraising strategies to secure financial support for the organization
- Ability to write and secure grant funding for continuing/enhancing operations and programs
- Ability to develop a diversification of funding sources
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Responsible for oversight of funding applications and required reports
- Identifies new sources of pay-for-service, contracts, corporate, foundation, and government funding
- Serves as the organization’s liaison with granting sources and is responsible for the renewal and management of contracts made with funding agencies
- Is authorized to enter into contracts and submit grants and grant reports for the organization
Program Development and Evaluation:
- Oversight, development, implementation, and evaluation of the strategic plan
- Initiate and oversee the development and implementation of new programs, projects, and services approved by the Board
- Evaluate the effectiveness of programs, projects, and services, and make adjustments as needed
Compliance and Legal Matters:
- Ensures that the organization complies with all relevant laws and regulations
- Remain informed and up-to-date on legal requirements and ensure compliance of Alliance personnel policies
- Serves on or recommends staff members to sit on statewide boards, such as the Oregon Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence Board, the Sexual Assault Task Force and the state advisory boards
- Proven ability to understand the legal, financial, and operational requirements of a non-profit organization
External Relations:
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with local, state, and federal government agencies as well as foundations, community partners, and individual donors
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with community partners including medical professionals, law enforcement, District Attorney, etc.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with community partners and ensure the Alliance has a leadership role on inter-organization teams, steering committees, councils, and other local, regional, and state advisory boards – participation is as capacity/time allows for local, regional, and state advisory boards
- Act as the public face of the organization, including delivering and approving presentations and serving as the primary contact for press releases, feature articles, and interviews in print, on radio, and with other media representatives
- Promote public awareness of the Alliance’s programs and services and the needs of the people who seek Alliance services
- Consults, educates, and socializes to further the Alliance’s mission
Board Relations:
- Work with board and staff to develop strategic plans
- Assist the Board of Directors in implementing a fundraising program based on goals and plans established by the Board
- Act as a resource in Board deliberations and ensure the Board receives accurate information crucial to its effective functioning by attending Board and committee meetings and preparing written and verbal reports
- Reports to and consults with the Board of Directors on problems and concerns related to the organization and communicates to the Board the ongoing program needs and activities of the organization
- Assist the Board in recruiting, training, and orienting new Board members
- Serve on Board committees, acting as a resource in policy development

Education and/or Experience:
Candidate must possess a master’s degree in a related field and have a minimum of five years progressively responsible experience in non-profit administration, accounting, grant writing, and/or project development and implementation. In lieu of a degree, at least 12 years of progressively responsible experience in a related field may be substituted. Candidates with extensive training or experience in domestic and sexual violence issues are preferred. Candidate will have demonstrable experience building relationships throughout the community and ability to effectively solicit donations.
Language Skills:
Candidate must be able to communicate clearly in English with excellent writing and verbal skills, including public presentations. Bilingual and/or bicultural candidates are encouraged.

Compensation:
The position is full-time, full year and offers a generous benefits package. Salary is negotiable; starting at $65,000/year.
