The Campaign
To raise funds to
build two vitally needed facilities. The goal is to build
a secure shelter for domestic violence survivors and their
children and a fully-staffed center to provide a wide-range of
advocacy services.
Safe House: The Safe House will shelter survivors and
their
children. A secure facility, it will be designed to accommodate
up to 30 adults and children for one night up to a year.
Advocacy Services Center: The Advocacy Services Center
will
house secure offices and a trained staff. It will provide
efficient, confidential services to over 1000 adults and child
survivors each year.
Funds are needed to pay for the land and to proceed with
construction of the buildings.
The Need
Domestic violence crosses all
socioeconomic boundaries. Areas with economic difficulties, such as the Illinois Valley, can be especially
susceptible to its dangers.
♥ Over 1000 survivors sought services from the IVSHA
in 2005
♥ The closest emergency shelter is 30 miles away and
is often filled to capacity and turning survivors away
Who
Benefits
The entire community is affected by
domestic violence.
♥ Over $50 million is spent in Oregon each year,
most of which takes the form of direct medical and mental health
care expenses
♥ Taxpayers often shoulder the costs
♥ Employers also shoulder these expenses as well as
absorbing the costs of downtime and lost productivity
♥ Government and law enforcement agencies are
swamped by domestic violence workloads
