The Illinois Valley Safe House
Alliance formed in September 2000 as a response to survivors'
concern for women and children in the Illinois Valley who were
affected by domestic and sexual violence. The group
quickly grew and the emphasis shifted to securing funds to
establish a nonprofit organization. The Illinois Valley
Community Response Team (CRT) awarded IVSHA a seed grant of
$40,243 to file the necessary paperwork and complete a "needs
assessment" -- how many people in the Illinois Valley and
surrounding areas needed services? What kinds of services
did they need? What services were currently available?
IVSHA quickly formed a board and hired a project coordinator in
2001. |
